Fashion designer KidSuper will reveal the Superhero Conceptualization and Layout Approach (CLA) designed for Mercedes-Benz at this season's Paris Fashion Week.
The KidSuper x Mercedes-Benz collaboration took centre stage at Paris Fashion Week, showcasing an extraordinary blend of art, fashion, design, and automotive culture. American fashion designer Colm Dillane, the creative mastermind behind the KidSuper label, presented a "superhero car" design that was nothing short of extraordinary.
The sculptural art piece, termed as a "machine from a comic book you wanted to live inside," paid homage to the futuristic design of the Mercedes-Benz F 200 Concept Car from 1996. It boasted chrome slingshot elements, a rally-style roof rack, balloon fins, and a nostalgic slingshot, alluding to the creativity of a genius child with access to a welding studio.
The side mirrors of the art piece were a tribute to the unmistakable silhouette of the legendary 200 SL. The collaboration seamlessly united art, fashion, design, and automotive culture, creating an iconic moment for the future of mobility. The art piece was an artistic interpretation of the brand new Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Beyond the car itself, the collaboration extended into a limited-edition capsule collection of 13 pieces. The collection proudly bore the iconic Mercedes-Benz logo and merged mechanic and painterly motifs. Items included grease-stained jumpsuits reimagined in refined tailoring, subtle embroidered KidSuper signatures, and patchwork areas featuring the famous "Kissing Face" motif from KidSuper.
The collection included jackets, shirts, pants, a trench coat, hats, bags, and a suitcase. Each piece was made from materials like cotton, canvas, popeline, jersey, wool, and vegan leather.
Colm Dillane, the third of five creative collaboration partners in the initiative, drew inspiration from childhood imagination and the fearless sense of possibility experienced when young. The emotional underpinning of the project was central to its conceptual narrative, capturing a moment of suspension and hope akin to that youthful feeling of "you try things without knowing if you’ll succeed — and even when you fail, you’re still in the air for a second."
The collaboration served as a source of inspiration for future collaborations between art, fashion, design, and automotive culture. It also served as an inspiring masterpiece that demonstrates the intertwining of automotive design and art.
The unveiling of the art piece took place at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre in Paris, marking another milestone in the extensive "Class of Creators" collaboration by Mercedes-Benz. The KidSuper x Mercedes-Benz collaboration is a compelling testament to the intertwining of art and automotive design, a bold, inspiring, and imaginative interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
