Experts from FPF (Future of Privacy Forum) deliver presentations at the 2025 IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals) Global Privacy Summit

The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) made a significant impact at the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Global Privacy Summit 2022, held in Washington, D.C. FPF showcased its expertise in privacy policy, AI regulation, and data protection, contributing to various panels, workshops, and keynote sessions.

The event kicked off with FPF hosting its annual Spring Social, expressing gratitude to sponsors FTI Consulting, Perkins Coie, Qohash, Transcend, and TrustArc. The social gathering provided an excellent opportunity for networking and setting the stage for the summit.

FPF's booth in the Exhibition Hall was a popular stop for IAPP Global Privacy Summit attendees, attracting many interested professionals. The booth served as a hub for discussions on cross-regulatory cooperation, AI regulatory approaches, and the future of technological innovation, policy, and professions.

Gabriela Zanfir-Fortuna, FPF Vice President for Global Privacy, moderated a conversation on Cross-regulatory Cooperation Between Digital Regulators, highlighting differing AI regulatory approaches across the Asia-Pacific region. The panel, which included FPF Managing Director for APAC, Josh Lee Kok Thong, delved into topics ranging from U.S. state and global privacy governance to the future of technological innovation, policy, and professions.

In addition to the panel discussions, FPF hosted two roundtable discussions. The first focused on "Navigating Transatlantic Affairs and the EU-US Digital Regulatory Landscape," while the second explored "India's new Data Protection law and what to expect from its implementation phase." These roundtable discussions provided valuable insights for attendees seeking a deeper understanding of these critical topics.

FPF also participated in the IAPP's annual Global Privacy Summit by hosting two Privacy Executives Network (PEN) breakfasts and a lunch. These events offered peer-to-peer discussions on data protection and privacy and AI Governance, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among privacy professionals.

Moreover, FPF, in partnership with the Mozilla Foundation, hosted a PETs Workshop, exploring new and emerging Privacy Enhancing Technology (PETs) applications. This workshop showcased FPF's commitment to staying at the forefront of privacy-focused technological advancements.

Doug Miller, FPF Senior Fellow, discussed ways to avoid workplace burnout for privacy professionals, ensuring that these essential professionals maintain their well-being and effectiveness in their roles. Keir Lamont, FPF Senior Director for U.S. Legislation, led a workshop, "US State Privacy Crash Course - What Is New and What Is Next," providing attendees with an up-to-date overview of the evolving landscape of U.S. state privacy governance.

Finally, FPF CEO Jules Polonetsky moderated a dialogue among high-ranking leaders discussing tech in an evolving political era, rounding off a successful participation in the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2022.

The nuanced landscape of AI regulation in Asia-Pacific was a key focus of the summit's second day, with most APAC jurisdictions preferring to regulate elements of AI systems rather than enact hard AI laws. Regulatory approaches in the region emphasize addressing risk in AI systems, promoting industry development, fostering international cooperation, and responsible AI practices.
