New Appointment at Candriam: Azhar Cheema Joins as Head of Institutional Sales
Azhar Cheema, a seasoned professional in the financial industry, has joined Candriam, a leading European asset management company, as the Head of Institutional Sales.
Born in a family where Urdu is the native language, Cheema's journey in finance began during his studies in Frankfurt am Main, where he worked at the ARD stock market editorial office for five years. His interest in finance, investments, and the stock market was sparked during this period.
Before joining Candriam, Cheema worked in sales at Oddo Asset Management in Frankfurt am Main and Paris, and later moved internally to Oddo BHF Asset Management in Düsseldorf. Prior to this, he also worked at Danske Bank, serving institutional clients in Germany and Austria.
Cheema brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Candriam. He is fluent in English, French, Urdu, and German, and holds a degree as a Diplom-Kaufmann in Business Administration with a focus on Finance.
Candriam, known for its strong emphasis on long-term returns combined with responsible, sustainable investing, has expanded its institutional sales team in Germany with this appointment. The company's investment philosophy integrates ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) factors in fundamental analysis, active ownership via engagement and voting, and transparent sustainability reporting.
With Cheema at the helm of the institutional sales team, Candriam aims to deliver conviction-driven, responsible investment solutions aimed at sustainable, long-term value creation. Cheema will be based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Candriam Funds have demonstrated a commitment to responsible investment principles since launching their first responsible fund in 1996. Key features include a multi-specialist approach managed by highly experienced teams, with 75% of assets under management dedicated to ESG investments. The Belfius Fullinvest Medium fund by Candriam, for example, has shown cumulative net returns of about 3.61% over 1 year, 3.19% over 3 years, 3.80% over 5 years, and 2.27% over 10 years, although these returns are historically somewhat below benchmark returns over these periods.
With Cheema's appointment, Candriam is poised to continue its mission of delivering sustainable, long-term value to its institutional clients.
