Expansion Announcement: New York Post Branches Out to Los Angeles Under the Name California Post
A new daily newspaper and digital publication, The California Post, is set to launch in early 2026. Based in Los Angeles, this sister publication of The New York Post aims to bring a similar style and tone to the West Coast, catering to a California-focused audience.
The California Post will deliver journalism, entertainment, celebrity gossip, sports, local news, and opinion with an edgy voice tailored for the West Coast. It will cover in-depth issues such as homelessness, business, and key industries like artificial intelligence, technology, and entertainment.
The newspaper will notably include a daily print edition and robust digital, social, audio, and video platforms. The California Post will share resources with its parent, News Corp, and will have access to the newsgathering capabilities of the organisation.
Nick Papps has been named editor-in-chief of The California Post, reporting to The New York Post’s editor-in-chief, Keith Poole, who oversees the project. The California Post will operate separately under the New York Post Media Group, a Murdoch-owned News Corp subsidiary.
The launch of The California Post reflects News Corp’s strategy to expand the Post’s brand to California’s large market, where 90% of the Post’s digital readership resides outside New York. The California Post will be printed using the same presses that print the New York Post for California readers.
The California Post aims to inject tabloid-style populism and irreverence into California’s media scene while providing serious, scoopy journalism relevant to the state’s local and national importance. It may challenge the gossip dominance of L.A.-based trade publications like Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline.
The California Post is expected to have 3.5 million monthly unique visitors in Los Angeles. With its launch, the newspaper may bring a common-sense, issue-based approach to metropolitan journalism in California.
