Exhibition Organizers Announce Over 230 Participating Galleries for 2025 Event, Marking Kyla McMillan's First Role as Director
The Armory Show, a distinguished American art fair, is set to return to New York's Javits Center from September 5-7, with a VIP preview on September 4. Under the direction of new director Kyla McMillan, who joined the Armory Show last July, the 2025 edition promises a reimagined experience for collectors and visitors.
McMillan's strategic restructuring emphasizes innovation, diversity, and stronger connections between galleries, artists, and collectors. This year, over 230 galleries are participating, with more than 135 returning exhibitors such as Kasmin, Victoria Miro, Sean Kelly Gallery, White Cube, and Esther Schipper. Newcomers include Los Angeles-based Megan Mulrooney and the nomadic gallery Superposition.
A key highlight of the restructuring is the introduction of two new curated sections. The Focus section, curated by Jessica Bell Brown, will feature artists from the American South and galleries like New York’s The Hole and Cape Town’s WHATIFTHEWORLD. Ebony L. Haynes will lead the Function section, exploring the intersection of art and design, with galleries such as Corbett vs. Dempsey, 56 Henry, and Silke Lindner participating.
The Solo section for single-artist booths is now integrated throughout the main Galleries section, including galleries like London’s Public Gallery and Portland/New York-based ILY2. The Presents section returns, showcasing solo and dual-artist presentations by galleries under ten years old, including JO-HS and Hannah Traore.
The changes aim to foster deeper connections and discovery and provide expanded access points for a range of collectors, reflecting New York's vibrant cultural scene through a dialogue between American and international perspectives.
In addition to the new sections, McMillan will introduce a new floor plan and a reconfiguration of the section for large-scale works. The Platform section will be led by Souls Grown Deep, with its chief curator Raina Lampkins-Fielder organizing the large-scale works on view.
Kristell Chadé, the executive director of fairs for Frieze, has stated that the Armory Show is a significant part of New York's cultural and commercial landscape. Frieze recognizes McMillan's curatorial intelligence and understanding of what drives a fair's success, appointing her as the Director of the Armory Show.
Eric Crosby will lead the Armory Show's eighth Curatorial Leadership Summit, further cementing the fair's commitment to fostering dialogue and innovation within the art world. With these changes, the 2025 Armory Show promises to be an exciting and transformative event for the art community. The full exhibitor list for the Armory Show will be provided in the following text.
