Hyundai Unveils Exciting Lineup for the Future

Hyundai is gearing up for an exciting future, with a series of new models set to be released over the next few years. The South Korean automaker has announced plans to release 21 new models by 2030, covering economy, luxury, and high-performance segments.

One of the most anticipated releases is Hyundai's first rival to the Toyota Hilux, a mid-size ute co-developed with General Motors. This new model, planned for launch in 2028, aims to compete in the popular mid-size ute segment alongside the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. Although Hyundai Australia has confirmed it will offer a ute in the near future, detailed specifications and exact release timing remain limited.

The development includes petrol and hybrid powertrain options, targeting production of around 800,000 units annually, primarily for Central and South American markets, but with potential exports elsewhere including Australia.

In the meantime, Hyundai is focusing on other new releases. The next generation Tucson, internally known as NX5, is expected to be released in the first half of 2026. The redesigned Tucson will continue with petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options.

Another exciting development is the new 2025 Hyundai Palisade, which made its debut recently. The Palisade features a more angular design reminiscent of luxury SUVs and offers distinctive stacked LED lighting and a boxier profile. Inside, dual 12.3-inch displays dominate the dashboard, while physical controls are retained. Expect at least seven seats, although a nine-seat configuration is a possibility.

Powertrain details for the 2025 Palisade are limited, but a hybrid variant and a 3.5-litre V6 are expected. The diesel option could be left out this time.

Hyundai is also working on a high-performance electric vehicle under the N division, the IONIQ 5 N, which was introduced in February 2024. It delivers a combined output of 478kW and 770Nm, priced at $111,000 before on-road costs.

The new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe offers a hybrid-only line-up across three variants: Santa Fe, Elite, and Calligraphy. The base model starts at $55,500, while the top-tier Calligraphy starts at $75,000.

In addition, Hyundai is developing a commercial-focused electric dual-cab vehicle, a model that Hyundai Australia would like to help take a slice of a huge segment currently dominated by the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.

The automaker is also advancing its hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle (FCEV) technology with the development of the next-generation Nexo SUV. The Initium concept, which may influence the upcoming Nexo, is equipped with larger hydrogen tanks, a higher-output fuel cell stack, an enhanced battery, and a 150kW electric motor.

Hyundai is also set to release an electric compact SUV named Inster, available in two configurations, with a driving range beyond 300km in base form and over 355km in top-spec form.

The i30 Hatch and Sedan have also been updated, with the new i30 Hatch featuring a new turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a shift to Czech production. The i30 Sedan is currently available with nationwide drive-away pricing until the end of November.

Lastly, Hyundai is planning to release a concept car, the Vision 74, with 100 units planned, 70 for public sale and 30 for racing purposes. The Vision 74 is expected to deliver over 550kW and production is anticipated to begin in 2026.
