Top-Level Dialogue on Tourism Boosts Ingolstadt's Potential
Ingolstadt, Germany, recently hosted a significant gathering of minds in the tourism industry with the "Top-Level Dialogue on Tourism." The event, organised by Dr. Michael Kern, the Mayor of Ingolstadt, brought together approximately 25 participants from various sectors, including the hotel and catering industry, IHK, Audi, Ingolstadt Village, IN-City, and various municipal departments.
The discussion focused on the untapped tourism potential in Ingolstadt, with Dr. Michael Kern expressing his optimism about the city's significant potential in tourism. He emphasised the need to increase awareness of Ingolstadt's many treasures, such as the German purity law, university history, and the fortress of the state.
One of the key attractions in Ingolstadt is the Audi Forum Ingolstadt, which offers museum exhibits and factory tours centered on the famed automobile brand. Other significant tourist attractions include Ingolstadt Village, a designer factory outlet; the Bayerisches Armeemuseum, one of Europe's largest military history museums; the Deutsches Medizinhistorisches Museum, featuring historic medical and surgical instruments and a medicinal plant garden; the Asamkirche Maria De Victoria, a richly decorated baroque church; and the historic White Tower and Marriage Carousel, family-friendly sites.
The dialogue resulted in the formation of informal working groups to develop concrete measures in various areas. Some potential initiatives for boosting local tourism, based on the city’s existing assets and visitor interests, include promoting themed factory and museum tours, leveraging Ingolstadt Village’s shopping appeal, enhancing family-friendly activities, developing marketing campaigns around Ingolstadt’s unique historical and cultural narratives, expanding bike tours and summer outdoor activities, and collaborations with regional hubs like Munich to offer combined tours and day trips.
Dr. Michael Kern expressed gratitude for the constructive exchange, insights, assessments, and creative input during the dialogue. He also stated that the city cannot achieve this alone and requires strong partners. The success of the dialogue has led to plans for another top-level dialogue to be held in half a year to discuss the results of the working groups.
With these initiatives, Ingolstadt aims to diversify the visitor experience beyond conventional sightseeing, boosting local tourism and showcasing the city's unique charm and history to a wider audience.
