EU Backs New Solar Alliance to Boost Manufacturing, Create Jobs

The European Commission has endorsed a new Solar Photovoltaic Industry Alliance, set to launch by the end of the year. The initiative aims to boost Europe's solar manufacturing capacity and create jobs in the sector.

The EC will work with EIT InnoEnergy to establish the Alliance, building on the success of the Batteries Alliance. The new body aims to help the EU reach 30 Gigawatt of annual solar energy manufacturing capacity by 2025. Dries Acke, Policy Director of SolarPower Europe, hailed the Alliance as 'a crucial initiative' for the European solar PV manufacturing sector.

Once set up, the Alliance will bring together various stakeholders with an interest in the solar PV sector. It will deliver an action plan for the solar industrial value chain in Europe and engage with the EU and Member States on various issues. The Alliance aims to accelerate the deployment of solar power across the EU and improve the resilience of the EU's energy system.

The coordination of the founding of the Alliance is not explicitly detailed. However, Leoni Thea Hohlmann, Head of Development Solar & Storage West at RWE Renewables Deutschland GmbH, has been involved in related solar initiatives. The call for membership in the Alliance will be published in November.

The Solar Photovoltaic Industry Alliance, endorsed by the European Commission, is poised to strengthen Europe's solar manufacturing sector. With a launch expected by the end of the year, it aims to create jobs and enhance the EU's energy resilience through increased solar power deployment.
