Shedding roles is a tactic that should be employed sparingly, especially during rough times. The aspirational goal is a labor negotiation agreement that secures employment, locations, and investments vital for the green transformation. A proposition detailing job reductions and outsourcing of up to 11,000 jobs from the 27,000 strong workforce was revealed last November by ThyssenKrupp's steel division—an idea that irked the labor unions. However, with the recent basic agreement, the deployment of the employees at North Rhine-Westphalia's Kreuztal-Eichen appears to be in the clear for now. As reported by the company, there will be no immediate closure decision. Although, a strategy to streamline the site, rather than closing it immediately, is to be set in motion. A final decision regarding the subsidiary's continued operation will be made latest by 2027/2028.

Nevertheless, the closure of the "Castroper Straße" site in Bochum could happen sooner, as indicated by the company. Their statements reveal a concurrent examination of bringing the closure forward.

ThyssenKrupp's steel division has grappled with financial challenges for years, with the corporation seeking to offload the steel subsidiary. Czech investor Daniel Kretinsky's EP Group has already secured a 20 percent stake, with an additional 30 percent under negotiation. The terms of the future strategy have been agreed upon with the investor, according to the company's statements.
