Episcopal Preaching Foundation appoints Jo Nygard Owens as head of Sermon Roundtable initiative

The Episcopal Preaching Foundation has announced that the Rev. Jo Nygard Owens will be taking over as National Coordinator for their Sermon Roundtable program. Owens, an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA), comes to the role with a wealth of experience in community engagement and nonprofit leadership.

Before joining the Episcopal Preaching Foundation, Owens served as the Pastor for Digital Ministry at Washington National Cathedral. During her time there, she created a digital community of over 700 participants from around the world. She also launched and hosted the Cathedral's bi-weekly podcast, Crossroads.

The Sermon Roundtable program, under Owens' leadership, will continue to bring together clergy and congregants in a structured process of sermon feedback and mutual exchange. This program has shown to positively impact the engagement and commitment of parish volunteers who provide sermon feedback.

The Sermon Roundtable program, which is a pilot program funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, has expanded its roster of participating parishes. These range from Grace Cathedral in San Francisco to smaller rural parishes.

Owens and her husband, the Very Rev. Bernard James Owens IV, who is an Episcopal priest and dean of Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio, will be relocating to Cleveland with their two school-aged children.

The Rev. Mariclair Partee Carlsen, who led the program for the past year, has recently accepted a call as rector of St. James, Marietta, Georgia. During her tenure, the program has fine-tuned its offering to parishes. Partee Carlsen has been able to witness the opportunities the Sermon Roundtable program offers for parishes and their congregations. She has also heard stories of transformation and renewal from participants in the program.

Peter Wild, Executive Director of the Preaching Foundation, has expressed his well-wishes for Partee Carlsen in her next phase of ministry. The Sermon Roundtable program's impact on participating preachers and congregations can be learned more about at www.preachingfoundation.org/Sermon-Roundtable.
