British Climate Technology Firm Partners with Kanoo Energy to Drive Decarbonization in the Middle East

British climate technology firm Levidian has formed a partnership with Kanoo Energy, a subsidiary of Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Company in Saudi Arabia and The Kanoo Group in the UAE. This collaboration, announced at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) this week, aims to drive decarbonisation projects across the Middle East, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman.

The partnership focuses on advancing decarbonization initiatives in the region. Levidian's patented LOOP system, which captures carbon from methane before it's burned, offers a route for heavy emitters and hard-to-abate industries to decarbonise gas. This system also enables the production of clean hydrogen and high-quality graphene.

The hydrogen produced can be used at varying levels of purity for use in the gas grid, on-site energy generation, or hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the graphene produced can be used to drive process efficiencies and enhance the intrinsic characteristics of products in various industries such as steel, batteries, and petrochemicals.

Kanoo Energy will serve as Levidian's dedicated Engineering, Procurement, and Construction partner within the region. The company will support project identification, development, and commercialization, benefiting from its regional market knowledge and networks. Levidian, on the other hand, will provide the core clean tech and engineering expertise.

This partnership positions both companies to capitalize on growing demand for clean hydrogen and green technologies in a strategically important energy market. It also aligns with broader Middle East governmental initiatives targeting carbon neutrality and sustainable industrial growth.

In addition to the partnership, Levidian has signed an agreement with Tadweer to commission a pilot project at a landfill site in Abu Dhabi by the end of 2024. The company is also collaborating on a LOOP project at ADNOC's Habshan Gas Processing Plant in Abu Dhabi.

Mr. Ali Abdulla Kanoo, President of Kanoo Industrial & Energy, stated that the partnership reflects their commitment to the region's goal of decarbonization and net zero. Colin Elcoate, Managing Director for Levidian in the Middle East and North Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that the technology is proven, scalable, and already making an impact.

This collaboration provides a solid business case for heavy emitters and hard-to-abate sectors to undertake decarbonisation projects. It also aims to accelerate and deliver critical decarbonisation projects in the Middle East, contributing to a sustainable energy future for the region.
