Emergency Declared in Chernihiv: Power Attack Leaves Region in Dark

An emergency has been declared in Chernihiv and surrounding areas due to a critical power supply situation. The attack on a substation in Slavutych on October 1 has left energy facilities severely damaged, leading to widespread power outages.

Chernihivoblenergo has assessed the situation as very difficult. The city of Nizhyn is completely without power, with eight 'invincibility points' set up for residents to charge devices and warm up. Schools have switched to remote learning for the rest of the week, and kindergartens were closed on Thursday, October 2.

Energy workers are managing the situation by using emergency shutdowns. Some pumping stations are operating on generators. Power facilities are running from alternative sources, but hourly power outages have been implemented. Water supply in affected areas will be provided according to a schedule.

More than 200 'invincibility points' have been established across the region to support residents during this challenging time. The extent of the damage and the time needed to restore full power are still being assessed.
