Starting from June 2025, a significant change is coming to toll collection rules on Kazakhstan's republican highways. The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan has announced that drivers will no longer be charged for sections of toll roads where safety and traffic flow are affected by defects.

This new measure, known as the toll waiver, is part of a broader effort to improve the overall driving experience on toll roads in Kazakhstan. The policy is designed to ensure that drivers are not unnecessarily charged for tolls due to defects on the toll roads.

Under the new rules, if a toll section is 100 km long and has 5 km of defects, drivers will only pay for the remaining 95 km of the toll highway. For example, if a driver travels the entire 100 km section, they will only be charged for 95 km.

The toll waiver applies to toll roads on republican highways in Kazakhstan. If defects are found on a section of a toll road, the toll for that section will be temporarily waived until the defects are fully resolved.

This policy is not applicable to sections of toll roads where safety and traffic flow are not affected by defects. The new toll collection rules align with the implementation of an electronic toll collection (ETC) system with RFID technology, aiming to improve tolling efficiency and cost recovery on highways.

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reported that these changes will come into effect as of June 2025. This policy shift is part of Kazakhstan's efforts to balance user fairness with infrastructure maintenance, providing a more convenient and cost-effective experience for drivers on republican highways.
