Electric vehicles manufactured in Thailand by BYD will commence export to Europe in late August.

In an exciting development, Chinese automaker BYD has announced plans to begin exporting plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to Europe in late August 2025. The specific models and the exact number of vehicles to be shipped have not been disclosed by the company as of August 2025.

The PHEVs will be loaded onto the BYD Zhengzhou, a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel that made its maiden voyage from China on July 26. The BYD Zhengzhou, which is part of BYD's car carrier fleet, measures 199 meters in length and 38 meters in width and can carry between 7,000 and 7,500 vehicles.

The BYD Zhengzhou has already called at multiple ASEAN destinations, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, before arriving at Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri, Thailand on Saturday. It is currently docked at the port, but is expected to return to Thailand at the end of August to deliver a new batch of electric vehicles (EVs).

The BYD Zhengzhou is the seventh ship in BYD's car carrier fleet, which includes the BYD Explorer No. 1, BYD Changzhou, BYD Hefei, BYD Shenzhen, BYD Xi'an, BYD Changsha, and BYD Zhengzhou.

It is worth noting that the BYD Zhengzhou runs primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG), with fuel oil as a secondary source. This eco-friendly approach aligns with BYD's commitment to sustainable practices.

The PHEVs to be exported will be manufactured at BYD's Rayong plant in Thailand. However, it is unclear whether the exported PHEVs will be the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i or the BYD Seal 5 DM-i models.

This move by BYD marks a significant step in the company's global expansion and its commitment to promoting electric vehicles. As more details about the PHEV export plans become available, we will keep you updated.
