East Carolina Diocese unveils list of candidates for bishop position
The Diocese of East Carolina has announced three nominees for the position of its ninth bishop, following the retirement of the Rt. Rev. Robert Stuart Skirving after his 12-year service.
The nominees are The Rev. Brian Cannaday, The Rev. Sarah Fisher, and The Rev. Caleb Lee. The Rev. Brian Cannaday is the rector of St. Christopher's in League City, Texas, while The Rev. Sarah Fisher is the rector of St. Catherine's in Marietta, Georgia. The Rev. Caleb Lee, currently the rector of St. Paul's in Wilmington, North Carolina, completes the list of nominees.
The nominees were approved by the diocesan Standing Committee on Sept. 4. The election for the new bishop will still take place during the Nov. 14-15 diocesan convention, which will be held at the Maxwell Convention Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Pending consents, the ordination and consecration of the bishop-elect is scheduled for May 26, 2026. The Standing Committee has initiated a nomination process by petition, with applications due by Sept. 29.
