We bid farewell to Elon Musk this morning, as he returns to his domains of automobiles and rocketry. In his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he aimed to dismantle bureaucracy, dismiss unnecessary federal employees, and save taxpayers a staggering two trillion dollars, as he himself claimed. His tenure lasted 130 days. Mission accomplished? Time will tell.
The White House has formally parted ways with Musk, while former President Donald Trump is expected to offer his accolades later today. Musk will then join Trump for a final press conference, according to a post on Trump's social media platform, Truth Social.
However, the fate of DOGE remains uncertain. A former employee expressed skepticism, suggesting that the appeal and attraction of the agency were largely tied to Musk. Without him, employees might cease to show up for work, effectively ending the project.
On the contrary, a White House representative assured that efforts to eradicate waste, fraud, and abuse would continue. But the means of this continuation remain unclear.
