Djamel Mohand, Chief Operating Officer of Foodics, announces departure to embark on a fresh entrepreneurial journey
In an exciting development for the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region, a new startup called Governata has been launched by former Foodics COO Djamel Mohand. This Riyadh-based enterprise is Saudi Arabia's first Arabic data governance platform, aiming to provide comprehensive solutions tailored for enterprises in the region.
Co-founded by Djamel Mohand, along with data governance experts Jehad Senan and Khalid Almudayfir, Governata recently secured $1 million in a pre-seed funding round [1][2][3]. The platform aims to serve the Arabic-speaking market, addressing a growing need for localised data governance infrastructure.
Djamel Mohand, who played a key role in Foodics' growth and expansion, has announced his departure from the company. Prior to Governata, he managed over 2,000 team members at Foodics, the leading SaaS and fintech platform in the F&B sector of the MENA region.
Before his tenure at Foodics, Djamel Mohand worked with Rocket Internet on Jeeny (previously known as Easy Taxi) in Saudi Arabia. After leaving his role at Jeeny in 2019, he later served as Managing Director for Saudi at Kitopi.
In related news, Foodics has also been making waves in the regional startup scene. The company recently announced the acquisition of the UK-based self-ordering platform Solo. Additionally, Foodics has invested in three startups, and has earmarked $100 million for M&A over the next three years.
These developments reflect a growing focus on AI and data-driven enterprise services in the region, with Governata's launch being a significant step forward in the realm of data governance. As the platform continues to grow and evolve, it promises to play a crucial role in helping organisations manage data compliance, privacy, and regulatory requirements effectively.
