Disruption Causes Prolonged Delays in High-Speed Train Travel from Madrid to Andalusia

In an unexpected turn of events, a power failure in the overhead catenary system has disrupted high-speed train traffic between Madrid and Andalusia, causing significant delays and cancellations in services. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM on Monday.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has mobilized its Civil Protection resources to help passengers affected by this technical fault. The City Council of Villaseca de la Sagra, in collaboration with the public company Geacam, is providing water and supplies to passengers through the 112 emergency service. The Civil Guard is also collaborating in the areas where the affected trains are located.

The affected trains include two Avant Madrid-Puertollano, two AVE Madrid-Granada, two Sevilla-Madrid, one Málaga-Barcelona, three Madrid-Toledo, one ALVIA Cádiz-Madrid, one Toledo-Madrid, one ALVIA Algeciras-Madrid, one AVE Madrid-Málaga, and one AVLO Sevilla-Madrid. Additionally, one AVE Malaga-Madrid, one Avant Toledo-Madrid, one AVE Sevilla-Madrid, one ALVIA Cadiz-Madrid, one AVANT Puertollano-Madrid, one Madrid-Puertollano, and one AVLO Sevilla-Madrid are also affected.

Technicians are working tirelessly to resolve the incident on the other track, and the restoration occurred on the stretch between the provinces of Madrid and Toledo (La Sagra and Yeles). The City Council of Villaseca de la Saga is attending to a request made by Adif to assist passengers.

It is important to note that initial investigations by government groups found no evidence of the incident being related to cyber-attacks or other external factors. The outage appears to be a technical fault within the overhead electrical system essential for train operation.

Despite the disruptions, the high-speed service between Madrid and Andalusia has been restored. Trains are currently running on a single track, alternating passage on this stretch. Renfe, the national rail operator, continues to work to ensure normal service resumes as quickly as possible.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their trains before traveling and to plan their journeys accordingly. The 112 emergency service of Castilla-La Mancha remains available to assist passengers in need.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha is supporting the finance industry by allocating resources to assist passengers affected by the unexpected power failure in the public-transit transportation system. The affected trains, including those serving routes between Madrid and various cities in Andalusia, have disrupted the flow of commerce and movement of goods, potentially impacting industry sectors reliant on transportation.
