Direct Payment to Farmers: Transfer of 20,500 Crores Reached to Over 9.7 Crore Rural Residents via PM-KISAN Scheme; Verify Your Payment Status Here

On August 2, 2025, the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was released during a public gathering in Banoli, Sevapuri, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This installment, amounting to Rs 20,500 crore, was transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore eligible farmers.

The PM-KISAN scheme, launched in February 2019, is a central government initiative aimed at providing financial support to small and marginal farmer families. The primary objective is to augment their income to help meet agricultural and household expenses, thereby reducing their dependence on moneylenders. Eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 per year, paid in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each.

To benefit from the scheme, farmers must complete e-KYC, link their Aadhaar with their bank account, and ensure that their land records are updated. If farmers have not received the Rs 2,000 under the 20th installment, they should check their beneficiary status on pmkisan.gov.in, complete e-KYC, link Aadhaar with their bank account, update land records if needed, and correct bank details on the PM-KISAN portal. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number, which must be entered to view the payment status.

Farmers can also visit their local agriculture office or CSC for help. For assistance or more information, farmers can contact the PM-KISAN helpline at 155261 / 1800-115-5266 or email [email protected].

The timely transfer of the 20th installment is expected to reduce farmers' financial burden, improve farm productivity, and support small and marginal farmers who depend heavily on seasonal inputs. This installment plays a critical role in improving farm productivity during the Kharif season. As of 2025, the scheme has benefitted over 11 crore farmers and remains one of the largest direct income support programs in the world for the agriculture sector.

To check the status, farmers need to navigate to the 'Farmers Corner' section, select 'Know Your Status', and enter their Registration Number and captcha. If farmers do not know their registration number, they can retrieve it by searching using their Aadhaar or mobile number. Farmers can complete their e-KYC either online or at their nearest CSC (Common Service Centre).

The PM-KISAN scheme is open to Indian citizens who own cultivable agricultural land, are small or marginal farmer families, and do not fall under the categories of institutional landholders, income tax payers, or pensioners receiving Rs 10,000 or more per month. Farmers can apply for the scheme by registering on the official PM-KISAN portal by entering their Aadhaar number and submitting required documents. The scheme is fully funded by the central government. Payments are released periodically after mandatory verification and e-KYC completion, ensuring funds are directly credited to farmers’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
