DEWA's Internal Audit Recognized Globally for Adherence to Quality Standards
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has achieved the highest level of conformance to the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. This recognition was given by the UAE chapter of the Internal Auditors Association (IAA) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), reinforcing DEWA's commitment to maintaining high standards in its operations and governance.
The certification ceremony took place at DEWA's headquarters, with Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, receiving the award. Ahmed Hassan Mohammad Noor, Acting Vice President of Internal Audit, and the internal audit team were present during the certification.
DEWA's Internal Audit Department follows rigorous compliance with local and international standards, including ISO 37000 and BS 13500. The department also adopts key global governance frameworks for their internal audit processes, such as the AI Procurement in a Box Toolkit, originally from the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This toolkit provides structured governance for acquiring AI solutions ethically and efficiently.
DEWA aligns its operations with the Security and Commodities Authority (SCA) and Dubai Financial Market (DFM) regulations, but the Internal Audit Department has not been previously mentioned to follow specific SCA or DFM regulations in this context.
To ensure systematic audit processes and continuous improvement, DEWA conducts half-yearly internal audits based on ISO standards and has localized the AI Procurement in a Box Toolkit. This commitment to best international practices in risk management and business continuity, supported by advanced digital infrastructure and smart systems, reflects DEWA's adherence to global standards for corporate governance and operational resilience.
DEWA's Internal Audit Department is also committed to adopting cutting-edge AI and data analytics in auditing, underscoring the authority's position as a governance and management excellence leader. This achievement underscores DEWA's commitment to global best practices in governance, risk management, and internal control processes.
This recognition further enhances confidence in DEWA's operations and reinforces its strategic objectives, solidifying its position as a leader in adhering to international standards and innovative governance frameworks.
