Development of the Johann-Weiß-Bridge is progressing according to schedule
New Bridge Over Kleine Isar in Landshut to Improve Traffic Safety and Attractiveness
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Landshut, marking the start of construction for a new bridge over the Kleine Isar. The aging bridge between Inner Regensburger Street and Franz-Högner Way/Johann-Weiß Way will be replaced with a modern structure, funded by the Special Program for Town and Country with a funding amount of 2.142 million euros.
The new bridge will feature several significant improvements, including a single bridge pillar to reduce the risk of debris getting stuck during floods. This design innovation is expected to enhance the bridge's resilience and safety.
The total costs for the project are approximately 3.3 million euros, with around 2.57 million euros allocated for the bridge construction itself. The bridge will carry utility lines for electricity, gas, data, and a district heating line of the Landshut City Works across the Kleine Isar.
Mayor Alexander Putz, Government President Rainer Haselbeck, and State Minister for Housing, Building, and Transport, Christian Bernreiter (CSU), were present at the groundbreaking. Minister Bernreiter emphasized the importance of separate bike and pedestrian paths for traffic safety and the attractiveness of the bridge for both groups. He also highlighted cycling as a central component of Bavarian mobility and climate policy.
CSU federal MP Florian Oßner, state MPs Jutta Widmann (FW) and Ruth Müller (SPD), and leading representatives from the City of Landshut's Building and Environment department were also in attendance.
The next steps involve the construction company creating formwork and reinforcement for the foundations, which will then be concreted. The boreholes for the deep foundation have already been set, and a filled-in construction road is used to build the bridge pillar in the middle of the river.
The old bridge has been completely demolished, and the clear width between the banks of the new bridge will be increased from 3.70 meters to 5.75 meters. This expansion will improve traffic flow and safety for both cyclists and pedestrians, as the bike and pedestrian paths will run separately on the new bridge.
The replacement is scheduled to take place in the coming months, with related infrastructure projects expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The company or person responsible for the construction of the new bridge over the Kleine Isar in Landshut is not explicitly mentioned in the available search results, but the Deutsche Bahn is involved in significant bridge construction projects in the region.
