New Development Unveiled for White Hart Street in Mansfield

Mansfield is set for a significant change as a new development project takes shape on White Hart Street, nestled within the Bridge Street and Market Place conservation area. This project, part of the Church Street Quarter in the emerging town centre masterplan, will be a collaborative effort between Proctor and Matthews and Mansfield District Council.

The winning design, chosen in the RIBA competition, boasts a re-interpreted, imaginative character that respects the area's heritage. The design is inspired by the traditional forms, materials, and colours of the location, creating a development that seamlessly blends with the surrounding architecture.

The project site holds a listed building and non-designated heritage assets, and the winning design by Proctor and Matthews ensures these are preserved and protected. The development's masterplan interweaves and layers many references to the site's former history, making it a sensitive exemplar of proposed new Mansfield homes.

The development will consist of a mix of family housing and flats for elderly people, offering a variety of living solutions for the community. The project is expected to cost between £14 million and £19 million, with the winning project by Proctor and Matthews, a leading architect organization, costing approximately £12 million.

Teresa Borsuk, senior adviser at Pollard Thomas Edwards, acted as the RIBA's architect advisor for the competition. The panel of the RIBA competition particularly enjoyed the careful crafting of the proposed masterplan, highlighting its potential to unlock wider regeneration plans for the town.

The development is situated within a key part of the town centre, set to become a new focal point for the community. The project will not only provide much-needed housing but also contribute to the wider revitalisation of the area, making it an exciting prospect for Mansfield's future.
