Say so long to Russian vodka and cognac as production numbers are taking a nose dive. According to RIA Novosti, thanks to data from Rosalkogoltabakcontrol, 2025's January-April vodka production plunged by a whopping 15.6% compared to the same period last year. The cognac business isn't faring much better, with an astonishing 22.7% decrease.
During the reporting period, the production of vodka and cognac amounted to 19.144 and 2.026 million dal respectively. Production of liquor and vodka dropped by a disheartening 6%, with a total of 5.104 million dal.
The grim news doesn't stop there. Overall production of strong alcohol (over 9% ABV) decreased by 14.7% in the first four months of 2025, reaching 28.719 million dal. Fruit alcohol production, however, took a record-breaking plunge of 89.8%, reaching a mere 499 thousand dal.
On the bright side, grape wine production showed a slight increase of 5.2% to 11.603 million dl, while sparkling wine production swung up by 6.9% to 4.808 million dl.
The total volume of retail alcoholic beverage production (excluding beer, beer drinks, cider, perry, and mead) plummeted by a staggering 26% in the first four months of 2025, to a disheartening 46.582 million dl.
