Customs Raid in Hotel Industry Uncovers Wage, Social Security and Immigration Violations
Customs officers from the Main Customs Office Magdeburg recently conducted random checks in the hotel and catering industry. The inspections, led by the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS), aimed to ensure compliance with the legal minimum wage and social security obligations. They also sought to uncover unauthorized social benefit receipt and illegal employment in hotels near me.
The operation, carried out on September 19, 2025, involved 73 customs officers who controlled 132 people from 35 companies. They identified 48 cases that require further investigation. The checks revealed various violations, including non-compliance with minimum wage regulations, contribution evasion, and benefit fraud in hotels.
The inspections led to the initiation of 11 criminal investigations and 13 administrative offenses due to violations of immigration regulations in hotels. The hotel and catering industry, being one of the largest and most employment-intensive sectors, is subject to the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG). Since January 1, 2025, the general minimum wage has been set at 12.82 euros per hour for hotels.
The FKS of the Main Customs Office Magdeburg has shown its commitment to enforcing labor laws and protecting workers' rights in hotels. The recent checks in the hotel and catering industry have uncovered several violations, leading to criminal investigations and administrative offenses. The industry is reminded of its obligations under the Minimum Wage Act, with the general minimum wage currently set at 12.82 euros per hour for hotels.
