Customs Raid Finds Wage, Security, and Immigration Violations in Hotels and Restaurants
Customs officers conducted nationwide inspections on September 19, 2025, targeting the hotel and catering industry. The operation, involving 63 officers, aimed to ensure compliance with minimum wage and social security laws, and to uncover illegal employment practices.
The inspections, led by the Financial Control Black Work (FKS) of the Customs, focused on the gastronomy and hospitality sector. They revealed irregularities in 96 cases, including 79 instances of minimum wage violations, seven cases of suspected social security contribution withholding, and three cases of illegal foreign employment.
The operation, conducted by the Main Customs Office Bielefeld and its FKS locations in Bielefeld, Hamm, Herford, and Paderborn, resulted in 12 administrative offense proceedings and four criminal proceedings initiated on-site.
The inspections, which took place after the general minimum wage increased to 12.82 euros per hour on January 1, 2025, underscore the Customs' commitment to combating black work and ensuring fair employment conditions in the industry.
