DAX Corporation Shines Amid Economic Headwinds: Daimler Truck Delivers Impressive Profits

In the face of trade disputes and economic slowdown, one corporation stands out for its remarkable profitability in the first half of 2025 - Daimler Truck. Despite lower volumes and challenging conditions, the company delivered a strong group performance in Q2 2025.

According to the company's reports, Daimler Truck achieved an adjusted return on sales (ROS) of 12.9% in Trucks North America, and overall stable profitability with an adjusted Group EBIT of €1.12 billion and a ROS of 9.3%, matching the previous year's figures. This resilience amid ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty is noteworthy.

While other DAX-listed corporations have reported decreased profits, Daimler Truck's performance outshines the rest. For instance, Verve Investors, Shopify (not in the DAX), and The Hackett Group (a U.S.-based firm) have shown more modest financial performances. Market overviews do not point to any other DAX companies outperforming Daimler Truck in this period.

The revenue of the companies in the German stock market's first division totaled around 434.6 billion euros in Q2 2025, a slight decrease from the previous year. However, 20 of the companies analyzed reported increased profits, while 14 companies reduced their workforce. Engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines saw the strongest increase of 20 percent.

The operating profit of all automakers listed in the DAX decreased by double-digit percentages, reflecting the poor business climate in the US and China. EY expert Jan Brorhilker predicts potential plant closures and significant job cuts in the automotive industry due to higher US tariffs and strong Chinese competition in electric vehicles.

As of June 30, 2025, a total of 3.49 million people were employed by the 34 DAX corporations, a decrease of around 30,000 compared to the previous year. Siemens Energy reported an impressive 1553 percent increase in operating profit compared to the previous year, making it the third-highest value ever recorded in a second quarter, albeit around 8.2 billion euros less than a year ago.

Despite the challenging economic climate, the 40 DAX corporations have collectively increased their revenue and profits in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year. Daimler Truck's impressive performance serves as a beacon of resilience in these uncertain times.
