Customs Bust Nets 50kg of Untaxed Tobacco and E-cigarettes in Heinsberg
Customs officers in Heinsberg have seized nearly 50 kg of tobacco and e-cigarettes during a tax inspection at a local shisha bar. The 45-year-old owner and a 34-year-old employee are suspected of tax evasion and smuggling, violating the Tobacco Tax Act.
The Main Customs Office Aachen acted on an anonymous tip and searched the shisha bar. While taxed tobacco products were found inside, officers suspected untaxed goods in a van parked outside. The owner initially denied ownership and claimed he didn't have a key. However, further investigation revealed the van was registered to him. Upon remembering an additional key, the van was opened to disclose untaxed tobacco products and e-cigarettes with a total liquid content of approximately 16,000 milliliters.
Both the owner and employee are now under investigation for suspected tax fraud and contraband violations.
The seized tobacco and e-cigarettes are being examined, and the investigation into the suspected tax evasion and smuggling continues. The names of those involved have not been disclosed at this time.
