BMG Acquires Jason Aldean's Music Catalogue in Largest Deal to Date

In a significant move, BMG has announced the acquisition of country music superstar Jason Aldean's recorded music catalogue. This marks BMG's single largest catalogue acquisition investment to date, valued at around $250 million, according to reports by Bloomberg.

The deal spans nine studio albums, including Aldean's platinum-certified self-titled debut in 2005, chart-topping 9 in 2019, and subsequent albums like Macon, Georgia (2021-2022) and Highway Desperado (2023) released through BMG's BBR Music Group imprint Broken Bow Records.

Thomas Coesfeld, CEO of BMG, commented on the deal, stating, "This underscores our commitment to the music industry and expands our investment in the US, the world's largest music market." The acquisition of Aldean's music catalogue further strengthens BMG's footprint in country music and expands across genres.

Jason Aldean expressed his satisfaction with the deal, stating, "Knowing all my music is in the hands of my long-time label team is a full-circle moment for me." He also expressed pride in his songs continuing their journey with BMG through the next chapter.

Jon Loba, president of frontline recordings, The Americas, highlighted the key moments Aldean's albums mark in fans' lives and the significance of bringing them back to their origins. Loba also emphasized the evolution and freshness that Aldean's music has brought to the country music genre over the years.

The deal includes interests in the recorded catalogues and publishing rights of 23 artists and songwriters, encompassing over 1,000 songs across multiple genres. This acquisition represents a powerful step in BMG's strategy to be the most effective, artist-first music company in the world.

Prior to this deal, BMG had also acquired Aldean's longtime label, BBR Music Group, in 2017. There is no indication that another party bought Aldean's catalog before BMG in this recent deal. The acquisition of Aldean's recorded catalogue and neighbouring rights marks the entirety of his music career being under BMG again.

This latest acquisition brings BMG's total investment in music rights since the launch of Bertelsmann's Boost program in 2021 to over $1.5 billion. The Aldean deal is a significant step in BMG's mission to be a leading player in the music industry.
