Police Headquarters Recklinghausen Leads Statewide Traffic Safety Control Operation
In a bid to ensure safety for all road users and prevent traffic accidents, a joint traffic safety control operation was conducted by the police headquarters of Borken, Coesfeld, Gelsenkirchen, Recklinghausen, Steinfurt, Warendorf, and Münster in September 2025.
The operation, led by Volker Wittenbreder, the head of the traffic directorate of the police in Münster, focused on commercial passenger and freight transport due to the increasing number of trucks on the roads. A total of 529 vehicles and their occupants were checked in the Münster government region during the action.
Overloading and insufficient securing of cargo were among the violations detected, with nearly half of the vehicles found to have such offenses. Sixty-one speeding offenses were also recorded, while 52 violations of social regulations, including driving and rest times, were detected. Two vehicle drivers tested positive for drugs during the action.
The high number of detected violations in relation to the number of checked vehicles underscores the need for such controls. Police cooperation partners such as the customs office, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), the Dutch police, the veterinary office, the food control office, the environmental protection office, and local fine offices were also present.
Operation leader Wittenbreder thanked the seven police headquarters and their cooperation partners for more road safety. He explained that the increasing number of trucks on the roads necessitated a focus on commercial traffic for road safety.
