Construction of Eupen Road beginning 4th August
The city of Aachen has announced plans for major asphalt works on Eupener Straße, scheduled to take place from August 4 to August 26, 2023. The repairs are necessary due to the poor condition of the road surface.
During the construction period, outbound traffic in the repair area will be closed. Traffic bound for Belgium will be detoured via St.-Vither-Straße, Siegelallee, Monschauer Straße, and the motorway towards Eynatten/Belgium. Inbound traffic towards the city center will follow alternative routes, with details to be provided in the official detour plan.
The Mobility Committee approved the corresponding marking plan on May 15, and parking strips along Eupener Straße will be re-marked to comply with regulations after road resurfacing. It is worth noting that parking will be reduced to one side along the entire section to maintain Eupener Straße's role in the Aachen bus network.
During the 2.5-day full closure, line 14 will use the detour in both directions. During partial closures, line 14 will follow a detour from Ronheider Weg via Eupener Straße, St.-Vither-Straße, Siegelallee, Monschauer Straße to the Eupen motorway. Bus lines 34 and 54 will also adjust their schedules during the repairs.
Waste collection, delivery services, and post will follow the detour during the repairs. Emergency services have been informed, and the accessibility of the affected areas is ensured at all times. However, it is recommended to check official announcements from the City of Aachen or the local traffic authority's website for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
The construction is scheduled during the summer holidays to exclude school traffic and minimize disruptions. It is important to note that streets such as Eberburgweg, Grindelweg, and Höfchensweg are not suitable for detour traffic due to their small size and inability to handle large volumes of traffic.
For those traveling by foot or cycle, the parallel facilities are currently unaffected and can continue unimpeded. They will be repaired at a later date, requiring different installation equipment. An intersection solution is not feasible due to the construction stretch being too long and the potential for a complete traffic collapse.
A temporary stop will be set up on Eupener Straße, opposite number 197, to replace Jahnplatz and Diepenbenden stops during full closures. The detour from Ronheider Weg/Weißhausstraße onto Eupener Straße will be taken due to insufficient remaining lane widths.
For the exact, detailed plan including street names, bus lines affected, and parking changes, we recommend checking official announcements from the City of Aachen or the local traffic authority's website or contacting the city's transportation department directly. Such notices are usually published well in advance of construction work and contain comprehensive instructions for the public.
The approaching asphalt works on Eupener Straße in Aachen will affect both the transportation and finance industries, as detours will be necessary for traffic bound for Belgium, potentially impacting business and travel plans. The finance industry may also be affected as the construction may disrupt waste collection and delivery services, possibly causing delays in commerce and day-to-day operations.
