The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is revolutionising travel along the Interstate 25 (I-25) corridor with a series of mobility hubs designed to enhance transit options and improve connectivity.

One of the most anticipated hubs is the Lone Tree Mobility Hub, currently under construction in Lone Tree, Colorado. This hub, CDOT's first without a parking lot, will offer a kiss-n-ride drop-off area and seamless connections to other passenger services like Bustang’s South Line and Denver RTD’s light rail.

The planning process for the Lone Tree Mobility Hub involved close collaboration with several stakeholders, including the city of Lone Tree, Douglas County, the Denver Regional Council of Governments, Denver South, Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD), local businesses and developers, and the Atlantis Community. Lone Tree Mayor Marissa Harmon expressed her excitement, stating, "The Sky Ridge at Lone Tree Station Mobility Hub represents the bold and innovative future we're building together for our community and the region."

Upon completion, expected in fall 2026, the Lone Tree Mobility Hub will help deliver on a forward-thinking vision, making transit trips convenient, efficient, and comfortable. The hub will also offer safe access to the northbound passenger pick-up/drop-off stop and a connection to the Lone Tree trail network for walkers and cyclists, thanks to a pedestrian bridge over I-25.

In addition to the Lone Tree Mobility Hub, CDOT has plans for mobility hubs in Castle Rock, Monument, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Idaho Springs, Grand Junction, and Fairplay. These hubs aim to provide convenient and efficient transit options, connect residents to employment, entertainment, and cultural centers, and help alleviate the burden of daily commutes.

The Thornton Mobility Hub, located at the I-25 and Highway 7 interchange, is another key project. It will include a pedestrian bridge over I-25, bus shelters, new traffic signals on the ramps, additional sidewalks, and a permanent water quality pond. The hub will initially accommodate 152 vehicle parking spaces, with the potential to expand to 304 spaces.

These mobility hubs are part of a broader strategy to enhance mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the region. Beyond these specific hubs, infrastructure improvements such as improved lanes, bike lanes, and pedestrian-friendly features are also being implemented in surrounding areas to enhance overall mobility and safety.

Denver South President and CEO David Worley expressed his enthusiasm about partnering on the Lone Tree Mobility Hub, stating it will be transformational by better offering transportation solutions to a wide variety of users. With these mobility hubs, CDOT and its partners are indeed transforming travel in Colorado, making it more convenient, efficient, and sustainable.

  1. The Lone Tree Mobility Hub, a transit hub without a parking lot, will offer seamless connections to passenger services like Bustang’s South Line, Denver RTD’s light rail, and potentially, technology like smart buses.
  2. In the future, the transportation industry may see significant changes as CDOT expands mobility hubs, including those in Castle Rock, Monument, Colorado Springs, and more, to finance and develop efficient and sustainable transportation solutions that address finance, technology, rail, and bus services.
  3. While the Lone Tree Mobility Hub is currently under construction, the industry looks to the completion of mobility hubs in Grand Junction, Idaho Springs, and Pueblo to provide convenient transportation options and improve connectivity, reducing traffic congestion in these areas.
