Construction at Alicenbrücke in Mainz: Here's the Plan
Mainz's Alicebrücke Continues to Face Traffic and Public Transport Disruptions Due to Ongoing Tram Track Work
Commuters in Mainz are advised to brace for continued traffic congestion and public transport disruptions on the Alicebrücke, as the ongoing tram track work is set to persist until the end of October.
Since June, the transition structure on the tracks has been rebuilt, and temporary bus stops have been set up at the West Main Station and the Main Station. Trams have been replaced by buses on the Alicebrücke, and some restrictions have been imposed on cars and public transport due to these changes.
Despite the progress made so far, only one lane is available for traffic in both directions towards the city center and out of the city center. A switch and double-track sections are being installed, and old tram tracks are being removed as part of the work. The concrete of the Alicebrücke has been inspected for damage, with the results reported as unremarkable by the city works.
Jens Grützner, spokesperson for the Mainz City Works, confirmed the rebuild of the transition structure in response to a query from Merkurist. He also stated that the work is progressing "almost according to plan." However, no new confirmations about the progress of the work have been made by Grützner since then.
The overhead lines are being adjusted as part of the work, and buses and replacement tram services will continue to use the temporary bus stops until the end of October. Only buses on lines 62, 63, 67, 69, 76, and 92 will stop at the Main Station in the usual areas.
The reopening of two lanes in both directions after the summer holidays (from August 18th) is contingent on the progress of the work. If all goes well, traffic and public transport on Alicebrücke may see some improvement after the holidays. However, until then, commuters should anticipate disruptions and plan accordingly.
Public transport restrictions will still be in place after the summer holidays, due to the ongoing track work. Passengers might need to use alternative transport options or expect longer travel times until the track work is fully completed. The traffic and public transport situation on Alicebrücke is expected to remain impacted until the end of October.
- As a result of the tram track work on Alicebrücke, the finance industry may experience delays in commuting times, potentially impacting productivity.
- With transportation disruptions on Alicebrücke persisting until the end of October, the local industry may face challenges in logistics and supply chain management, particularly those dependent on timely public transport.
