Confirmation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rating received by the Russian atomic industry

Rosatom, the Russian state-owned nuclear energy corporation, has received a positive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) rating from the agency AKRA. The corporation was assessed at the ESG-2 (AA+) level, indicating a "very high assessment" in ecology, social responsibility, and management.

The rating agency has assigned a "stable" outlook for maintaining this rating for the next 12-18 months. This affirmation is a testament to Rosatom's ongoing efforts to strengthen the sustainability of the corporation and its key businesses.

Polina Lyon, the director of the sustainable development department of Rosatom, stated that the confirmation of the ESG rating is a significant milestone. She emphasised that it demonstrates the effectiveness of their efforts to enhance the sustainability of the state corporation and its core businesses.

The ESG rating assessment was conducted across six key divisions of Rosatom: Mining, Power Generation, Fuel, Engineering, Machinery, and the "Sales and Trading" division. These six divisions collectively account for over 70% of Rosatom's total revenue.

In the process of gathering information for the ESG rating, Rosatom has been working on developing a supplier code in certain divisions, widening the implementation of supply chain management systems, and forming programs to improve water use efficiency.

AKRA has also suggested areas for Rosatom's development to further enhance its ESG profile. These include implementing practices for preserving biodiversity, which is a crucial aspect of sustainable development.

While the name of the director of the sustainable development department responsible for collaboration with AKRA on ESG evaluation could not be ascertained, it is clear that Rosatom is committed to its sustainability goals. The corporation's ongoing efforts in this regard are expected to continue shaping its future in the coming months.
