Breaking News: Grand Paris Express Line 18's First Train Arrives and Tests Commence!

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the first metro train for Line 18 of the Grand Paris Express, valued at €199 million, was delivered to the Palaiseau operating center. This exciting event marks a key step towards the line's scheduled opening in the last quarter of 2026!

A Glimpse into the Innovative Train Design

This modern train features a compelling exterior design, chosen by the people of Ile-de-France via an online poll, featuring a luminous signature around a large "diamond" windscreen. The panoramic view of the front of the train offers an unmatched travel experience.

The visually appealing yet practical interior has been meticulously designed for maximum light, safety, and comfort. Wider doors, a low floor, and spaces for people with reduced mobility/wheelchair users ensure greater inclusiveness. Passengers can take advantage of intelligent air conditioning, LED lighting, USB sockets, and real-time passenger information screens. The ergonomically designed seats, harmonious lighting, and collaboration with an ergonomist all contribute to a comfortable ride.

Exciting Tests and Deliveries Ahead

By year's end, 10 trainsets will have been delivered to Palaiseau for dynamic tests (the running of the train) on the entire 8.5km section between Massy-Palaiseau and Christ de Saclay stations. These tests validate the rolling stock's compatibility with all the equipment installed in the tunnels and stations.

Revolutionizing Public Transport in Paris

This new fully automatic and 100% electric line, spanning 33 km, will ultimately include 10 new stations, connecting with existing network lines such as Metro line 14, RER lines B and C, tramway line T7, tram-train line T12, and train lines N and U. Combining state-of-the-art driverless technology with optimal performance and energy recovery systems, Line 18 will offer an average operating speed of 65 km/h and virtually eliminate the need for a catenary, ensuring a seamless experience for passengers.

Looking Ahead: Rich History and a Bright Future at Alstom

Since the 1930s, Alstom—a leading global supplier of mobility solutions—has been at the heart of public transport in France. Line 18 represents the latest addition to its extensive legacy of innovative metro designs, powerful engines, and cutting-edge infrastructures.
