Breaking News: New Residential Quarter to Rise in the Heart of Mönchengladbach

In a significant step towards expanding the city's housing landscape, construction has begun on a new residential quarter in Lürrip, Mönchengladbach. The project, led by EWMG and Anton Küpper Bau GmbH, aims to create around 300 housing units on three lots in the medium term.

The groundbreaking marks the start of traffic and technical development in the new construction area. Spanning approximately 3,800 square meters of road surface and around 530 meters of canal, the development includes a boulevard-like pedestrian and cycle path running through the area.

The new quarter is strategically located near the main railway station and the S-Bahn halt in Lürrip, making it easily accessible for residents. It is also connected to the old core of Lürrip via an urban axis, ensuring seamless integration with the existing city fabric.

Dr. Ulrich Schückhaus, Chairman and Managing Director of EWMG, is at the helm of this development. He has initiated the creation of a new, well-planned residential district in the center of Mönchengladbach, as part of his commitment to providing people with homes and giving the city a forward-looking design.

The development on Lot 1 is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2026. On this site, a primary school and kindergarten are planned. Meanwhile, the adjacent Lots 2 and 3 of the REME area will undergo renaturalization, creating a green and recreation area.

The plots for the houses will be allocated through three different procedures: highest bid, social points, and lottery based on a fixed price. A total of 29 housing units are planned at Compesmuhlenweg, with at least 50% publicly subsidized.

The new residential quarter stands out with its central location and commitment to social diversity, short distances, and quality of life. The development on Lot 1 is just the beginning, with the entire REME site set to undergo transformation in the coming years. Despite the challenges, the groundbreaking on Lot 1 serves as a testament to what is possible in creating well-planned residential areas.

A total of 1.5 million euros is being invested in this area for urgently needed housing. Dr. Schückhaus emphasized that the new residential quarter is being created with these principles in mind: "We are creating space for social diversity, short distances, and quality of life."

This new construction is an example of long-term commitment to creating well-planned residential areas in Mönchengladbach. EWMG will market the 14 building plots for detached single-family and semi-detached houses to private builders. As construction progresses, the city of Mönchengladbach and its residents can look forward to the addition of this vibrant new quarter.
