HÀ NỘI - Executives from the Vietnamese National Chemical Group (Vinachem) have reported on the advancement of a major potash mining project in Khammouane province, Laos, to Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith in Vientiane on Tuesday.
The meeting followed Vinachem's four-day visit to Laos, during which they discussed project progress and administrative issues with Lao government officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister, members of key ministries, and the provincial Deputy Governor.
Vinachem Chairman Phùng Quang Hiệp and General Director Nguyễn Hữu Tú provided the Deputy PM with an update on the project's milestones, such as land clearance, infrastructure preparation, equipment mobilization, personnel arrangements, and additional capital planning.
The company also proposed that the Lao Government direct relevant ministries to address the remaining administrative hurdles, aiming to expedite the project and adhere to the planned schedule.
Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith acknowledged the project's importance as a cornerstone of Laos-Vietnam cooperation. The successful completion of the potash mine would generate economic benefits and foster diplomatic ties between the two nations.
In response, the Lao Government promised continuous support for the project and directed the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee to engage with relevant ministries in resolving outstanding matters.
Post-meeting, the Vinachem delegation paid a visit to the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos, where Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Tâm affirmed the embassy's commitment to backing Vinachem's investment initiatives in Laos, particularly the potash mine project.
The potash mine project represents the deepening partnership between Vietnam and Laos, with the joint venture expected to reap strategic benefits for both nations. Both governments are showing great interest in the project's progress, as it symbolizes a new phase in bilateral cooperation.
