Business entities Schwarz-Gruppe and DFL purchase shares in Dyn Media, marking a strategic partnership for the digital media sector.
In a significant move aimed at accelerating its growth, sports streaming service Dyn Media has announced the acquisition of new shareholders. The new investors include the Schwarz Group, the parent company of Lidl and Kaufland, and the German Football League (DFL), the organiser of the first and second men's Bundesliga.
Founded by Christian Seifert in 2022, Dyn Media has grown rapidly under Seifert's leadership. Prior to establishing the company, Seifert served as the chairman of the management board of the DFL from mid-2005 to the end of 2021. He also held a significant stake in Dyn Media, with around 25% prior to the recent acquisition.
The Schwarz Group will acquire approximately 42.5% of the shares in Dyn Media, reducing Axel Springer SE's stake to the same percentage. Axel Springer SE, a German media company and co-founder of Dyn, previously held around 75%. The DFL, on the other hand, will acquire a stake of approximately 6.5%.
Christian Seifert will retain his position as a shareholder and will continue to hold around 9% of the shares. The inclusion of the Schwarz Group and DFL as strategic investors highlights their intent to leverage sports media as a communication and marketing platform domestically and internationally.
The capital increase is part of Dyn Media's strategy to expand its sports rights portfolio, develop new business areas, and enhance its technical media platform. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
