Bugatti presents its inaugural undertaking under the umbrella of its latest venture, Programme Solitaire, with the unveiling of the Brouillard vehicle.
The Bugatti Brouillard, a one-of-a-kind hypercar, is set to make its public debut at Monterey Car Week in California. This bespoke creation marks the beginning of a new era for Bugatti, with no more than two vehicles produced each year, each embodying the brand's unique blend of mechanical excellence and artistic legacy.
Design
The Brouillard's design is a stunning amalgamation of modern Bugatti engineering and the artistic heritage of the Bugatti family. The exterior, crafted from advanced carbon fiber and lightweight aluminum, presents a sleek, muscular silhouette reminiscent of Ettore Bugatti's prized racehorse, Brouillard. The exterior design avoids sharp lines in favor of curved, reflective surfaces, with a distinctive horseshoe grille paying homage to Bugatti’s historic design language.
Aerodynamic elements include a fixed ducktail spoiler, wide rear diffuser, and stacked round exhaust tips, all optimized for airflow and cooling to support the powerful W16 engine. The profile of the Brouillard incorporates the brand's signature C-shaped openings behind the greenhouse, carbon fibre trim, and a vibrant green paint finish.
Powertrain
At its heart is the 8.0-liter twin-turbocharged W16 engine, the final evolution from the Chiron and Mistral models, delivering 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, powering all four wheels and allowing rapid acceleration: 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds and a top speed limited to 261 mph. The car weighs about 1,995 kg (2 tonnes), providing an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of 791 hp per tonne.
Performance
The Brouillard is engineered for both outright speed and usability, with an advanced suspension system offering stability and comfort at high speeds, alongside Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for maximum grip. Its aerodynamic package ensures balanced downforce and efficient cooling under demanding conditions, enabling performance that rivals or surpasses previous Bugatti W16 cars.
Interior
The interior combines bespoke artistry with cutting-edge materials, reflecting the Bugatti family’s artistic heritage. It features custom-woven Parisian tartan fabric meshed with green-tinted carbon fiber and machined aluminum details. Notably, the gear shifter houses a miniature sculpture of Ettore Bugatti’s prized horse, Brouillard, symbolizing the spirit and legacy of the Bugatti lineage. The cabin has a panoramic glass roof creating a cathedral-like ambiance, with deep misty grey aluminum accents and leather-trimmed details, all crafted with exquisite precision and elegance.
In essence, the Bugatti Brouillard encapsulates a perfect fusion of mechanical brilliance—a 1,600 hp W16 powerhouse optimized through leading aerodynamic engineering—and a richly symbolic design narrative honoring the Brand’s founder and his passion for horses. This reflects Bugatti's tradition of creating hypercars that are not only technological marvels but also exquisite works of art and craftsmanship.
The Bugatti Brouillard is part of the 'Programme Solitaire' approach, which draws from Bugatti’s early 20th-century coachbuilding tradition. The commissioning owner, Michel Perridon, also owns the world's largest private Bugatti collection and pieces by Carlo and Rembrandt Bugatti. Each Solitaire project will use current Bugatti powertrains and structures while reimagining the bodywork and interior from the ground up. The unique leather arrangement is used in the seats, and they are made to the owner's specifications. The centre spine continues from the exterior design into the interior, and the use of machined aluminium is increased in the interior.
The Bugatti Brouillard is a testament to Bugatti's commitment to creating vehicles that are not just high-performance machines but also works of art, each with its unique story and connection to the brand's rich history and legacy.
