Budget draft for the upcoming fiscal year has been reviewed by the Commission.
In an interview, Markus Meixner, the mayoral candidate for Koblenz, outlined his vision for the city's future. Here are some key points from his proposed agenda.
Meixner intends to promote Koblenz as a strong economic location, particularly attracting investments from the defense industry. He believes that this sector has the potential to boost the city's economy significantly.
When it comes to mobility, Meixner plans to expand the bus network and enhance bicycle infrastructure. However, he has not provided specific projects to improve these networks, beyond advocating for a traffic policy that is not anti-car and ensuring a solid substance of infrastructure.
Climate change is a concern that Meixner acknowledges, but he does not subscribe to the exaggerated hype surrounding its consequences. His plan to adapt Koblenz to climatic changes includes planting shade-providing trees, replacing sealed surfaces with green spaces, preparing the drainage system for heavy rain, and expanding early warning systems.
Meixner has not responded to the question about measures to protect the people in the city from the consequences of climate change.
On the issue of security, Meixner believes that uncontrolled mass migration since 2015 has led to an erosion of security in Koblenz. He claims that foreigners from main asylum countries are overrepresented in violent crimes. To address this, Meixner plans to ensure a stronger presence of the municipal enforcement service in the city center and districts. He also intends to expand administrative structures to gradually deport asylum migrants who are required to leave and criminal foreigners without residence permits.
In terms of city development, Meixner does not support further reduction in parking spaces. Instead, he advocates for an inventory of the current state of infrastructure and an investment plan for the next 20 years to prevent multiple construction sites and ensure a solid substance of structures.
Meixner's campaign promises a focus on economic growth, improved mobility, and enhanced security, offering a unique perspective for the city of Koblenz.
