BMW's M2 Track Package makes first appearance in a covert recording, slated for release in 2026.
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as BMW unveils its new M2, a track-focused masterpiece that promises to deliver a thrilling driving experience.
In a two-minute video teaser, the new M2 showcases a sharper appearance compared to the M Performance Parts M2. The rear-wheel-drive manual M2 will continue to be available, with the option to choose between a six-speed stick shift and an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. This flexibility ensures that drivers can tailor their M2 experience to their preferences.
Weighing in at 1,700 kilograms in its lightest European spec, the new M2 is lighter than its predecessor, contributing to enhanced agility and performance. The U.S. version, however, tips the scales at 3,770 pounds.
BMW has made significant changes to the M2's bodywork, including front canards, typically reserved for serious track toys, a larger rear wing, and a camouflaged hood, hinting at a potential carbon bonnet upgrade. These modifications, along with a substantial rear wing, are designed for improved aerodynamics and a more responsive driving experience, both on the track and on the street.
The new M2 has already proven its mettle, setting lap records at the Nuürburgring. BMW is considering whether to restrict the Track Package to new orders or make it available as a retrofit for existing M2s.
In a surprising move, BMW is set to release an automatic-only M2 xDrive in 2026. However, the Track Package will be available for both the regular M2 and the hotter M2 CS, potentially paving the way for similar aerodynamic enhancements in a potential M2 CSL.
The Track Package ditches the M2 CS's ducktail spoiler in favor of an oversized wing, and it may address one of the M2 CS's weak spots with a carbon bonnet, although this might be reserved for a potential M2 CSL.
As we eagerly await the official release of the new M2, one thing is certain: BMW is pushing the boundaries of performance and design, delivering a car that is sure to captivate enthusiasts and casual drivers alike. The new M2 promises to be a formidable contender on the track and a joy to drive on the open road.
