Biography of Bill Gates:
In the year 1975, Bill Gates and his business partner Paul Allen saw the potential in the Altair 8800 microcomputer. Inspired by an article in Popular Electronics magazine, they embarked on a journey that would change the tech world forever.
Despite not having a working microcomputer to test their ideas, Gates and Allen developed a BASIC interpreter for the Altair. They contacted the Altair's manufacturer, Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS), and claimed they had written a version of the computer language BASIC for the microcomputer. After quickly developing a working demonstration with the help of Monte Davidoff, they made a deal to distribute their Altair BASIC software.
Gates left Harvard University in November 1975 to join Allen in Albuquerque, where MITS was located. Together, they officially co-founded Microsoft on April 4, 1975, with Gates as CEO. The name "Micro-Soft," suggested by Allen, was a combination of "microcomputer" and "software."
Initially, Microsoft focused on creating and selling BASIC interpreters for microcomputers. Their breakthrough came in 1980 when IBM hired Microsoft to provide an operating system for its first personal computer. Microsoft acquired an existing OS called 86-DOS, adapted it into MS-DOS, and licensed it to IBM while retaining rights to sell it to other manufacturers. This licensing strategy was fundamental to Microsoft’s early success and growth.
As Microsoft grew, it expanded into developing applications software. One of its earliest products was the Altair BASIC language, which marked the beginning of a tech empire. Today, Bill Gates, now 67 years old, boasts a net worth of $107.9 billion as of spring 2023.
Gates and Allen's philanthropic efforts have been as impressive as their business ventures. They have donated billions of dollars to charity, relief, and human development resources and organizations through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation, created in 2000, supports many programs and efforts, particularly public health projects.
Gates, who began his formal education at a private Lakeside prep school in Seattle, has also provided personal donations to many educational institutions over the years, including his old Lakeside school. He intends to leave each of his children only $10 million each, with the rest of his fortune going to charity.
Gates' philanthropic efforts have been a significant inspiration, particularly to David Rockefeller. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by combining three previously existing family foundations and donated stock, has become a beacon of charitable giving.
