Berlin's Largest PV System Installed on Trade Fair Center Roofs

Berlin has taken a significant step towards its renewable energy goals with the installation of the city's largest photovoltaic system on the roofs of the Messe trade fair center. This move comes as the state aims to increase its solar power share to 25 percent by 2035.

Currently, around 5.6 percent of Berlin's electricity is generated from solar systems. However, the city is making strides in this area. As of Monday, over 53,000 solar panels with a combined output of 459 megawatt peak have been installed. The SolarPlus funding program has played a crucial role in this growth, granting around 27,000 approvals worth 26.5 million euros, including 19,000 approvals for balcony power plants.

Looking ahead, Berlin's Senator for Economic Affairs, Franziska Giffey, plans to focus more on large roofs owned by companies and other entities to further boost solar power generation. The ultimate goal is to achieve a total output of 4,400 megawatt peak.

The installation of Berlin's largest photovoltaic system on the Messe trade fair center roofs marks a substantial addition to the city's solar power capacity. With clear targets and ongoing initiatives like the SolarPlus funding program, Berlin is committed to increasing its solar power share and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
