Berlin Businessman Sentenced for €1.2M Wage Fraud
A Berlin businessman has been sentenced for wage fraud and evading social security contributions. The businessman, who operated in the cleaning and construction sectors, was given a two-year prison term, suspended on probation, and ordered to pay €1.2 million in compensation.
The businessman withheld wages in 46 cases, using fake invoices from non-existent service companies to hide the unpaid labour. This practice went on from September 2016 to February 2021, totalling €1.2 million in unpaid contributions. The court seized this amount as compensation.
The investigation was led by the Customs Main Office Frankfurt. While the name of the specific official in charge of the case is not mentioned, Oliver-Thomas Pampel-Jabrane, head of the Hauptzollamt Frankfurt (Oder), was identified.
The businessman's actions have resulted in a significant financial impact on both employees and the state. The court's decision sends a clear message that such practices will not be tolerated.
