Barrier-Free Bus Stops Coming to Rigaer Street in Berlin's Ostseeviertel

Renovation work commences this week at two bus stops on Rigaer Street in Berlin's Ostseeviertel Parkside. The project aims to make the stops barrier-free and accessible for all, including the visually impaired.

The Berlin district office Mitte (BA Mitte) and the Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer Protection and Climate (SenMVKU) are leading the project. It involves raising the entire area by about 20 meters to facilitate barrier-free access.

Fifteen of the 29 bus stops, including those near the Montessori School, have already been completed since the project began in 2022. The Department of Civil Engineering and Parks has overseen the renovation of these stops. The completion of the Rigaer Street bus stops signals the end of this phase of the project.

New curbs will be installed at the bus stops to aid passengers boarding the bus. Additionally, tactile paving will be added to help visually impaired individuals navigate the area safely.

The renovation work is expected to conclude by September 5. During this time, the street will be closed alternately to ensure the safety of both workers and pedestrians. Upon completion, the two bus stops on Rigaer Street will be fully accessible, marking a significant improvement for all users, particularly those with visual impairments.
