Revamped Engage: Access Bank Ghana's SME Fair

At AMA Gardens from December 8th-10th, Access Bank Ghana shook things up by hosting a groundbreaking Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) fair - the first of its kind in Ghana. Partnering with Graphic Business, this thrilling three-day event took place at the AMA Hall in Accra, centered around the theme 'Empowering SMEs: Bridging Market Barriers for Sustainable Growth'.

Olumide Olatunji, Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, delighted in the impact the collaboration has made on SMEs in the country. Over the last two years, these innovative workshops and clinics have armed SMEs with vital business tools, he explained.

With a grateful heart, Olumide reminisced, "We at Access Bank have been on an incredible journey of empowering the SME sector, fostering robust, resilient SMEs on the global stage, and making a substantial positive impact on Ghana's economy through digitalization, funding, and business advisory services."

Olumide commended Graphic Communications for paving the way for market access and pledged Access Bank's support for this mission through ongoing physical fairs and digital marketplaces. Moreover, he applauded Graphic for educating over five million people every two weeks through the 'SMEs in Focus' publications, which he deemed crucial for SME growth.

Herbert Krapa, Deputy Minister for Trade, applauded Access Bank for this novel initiative, acknowledging the pivotal role SMEs play in stimulating economic growth. He emphasized how government, through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), provides a platform for SMEs to explore global markets, thereby intensifying competition and necessitating SMEs to remain competitive to reap benefits.

Krapa highlighted various government initiatives to bolster the SME sector, such as duty exemptions, access to finance via the Ghana Export-Import Bank, and support from the Ghana Enterprises Agency.

Prof. Godfred Bokpin, a Finance professor at the University of Ghana Business School, foreseeing Ghana's population reaching 45 million by 2040 and requiring 10 million jobs in the private sector, emphasized the necessity of fortifying the SME sector to meet these demands. He encouraged intentional efforts to foster growing SMEs into regional, continental, and global entities.

Franklin Sowah, Director of Business at Graphic Corporation, lauded Access Bank Ghana for this initiative and committed Graphic's continued support for SME growth. As a reliable banking partner for SMEs, Access Bank continues to prioritize offering customized solutions to cater to its esteemed customers' evolving needs. By consistently engaging with customers, Access Bank maintains a finger on the pulse of the SME landscape, ensuring it offers relevant, effective solutions.
