Automotive company GAC set to reveal innovative extended-range technology on August 19.
GAC, a leading Chinese automaker, has made a significant stride in the electric vehicle (EV) industry with the unveiling of its innovative extended-range system, named "Xingyuan." This system, designed to overcome common challenges faced by extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), particularly when the battery level is low, promises to redefine the EREV experience.
Key Innovations in GAC's Xingyuan System
GAC's Xingyuan system boasts several key innovations that aim to address the issues of high fuel consumption, power loss, noise, and vibration in EREVs.
Ultra-Efficiency
The system features a GAC-developed high-efficiency range extender with industry-leading fuel-to-electricity conversion efficiency, maximizing fuel utilization.
Ultra-Power
The Xingyuan system incorporates a world-first crankshaft-direct oil-cooled generator with bi-directional oil cooling for rotor and stator. This enables continuous top-tier power output even at low battery charge levels, ensuring performance does not drop.
Ultra-Quiet Operation
The system minimizes engine speed fluctuations and optimizes electromagnetic forces, drastically reducing noise and vibration. Cylinder deactivation enables seamless start-stop operation, creating a quiet cabin environment comparable to pure EVs.
AI-Enabled Energy Management System
The Xingyuan system uses comprehensive strategies like intelligent charging adjustment, smart energy recuperation, and instant optimal power allocation to eliminate the typical power drop and inefficiency when battery is low in EREVs.
Performance and Efficiency
The Xingyuan system supports fast charging (800V, 5C), adding 210 km range in 10 minutes. Total combined range (battery + fuel) reaches 1,369 km with a WLTC fuel consumption of 6.7 L/100 km when battery depleted. Acceleration is strong at 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
Vehicle Application
The Hyptec HL EREV SUV, available in rear-wheel drive with 5- and 6-seat options and spacious cargo capability, debuted with the Xingyuan system. GAC has also hinted at the extended-range version of its our X (Twitter) profile9 MPV, set to have a CLTC battery range of up to 450 kilometers.
Redefining the EREV Experience
By simultaneously tackling the issues of high fuel consumption, power loss, noise, and vibration at low battery states, the Xingyuan system provides abundant power and a smoother, quieter driving experience even when electric-only range is exhausted. This innovation is expected to redefine the driving experience of EREVs.
GAC also plans to launch more EREV models, including extended-range versions of the A8 sedan and the Aion V. The automaker has developed an AI energy control platform for better energy management in its vehicles, further enhancing the efficiency and performance of its extended-range systems.
