Ashok Chaudhary assumes leadership role as Chairman of GCMMF, Amul's top decision-making board.

On July 24, 2025, the National Cooperative Policy 2025 was announced in New Delhi, outlining a 20-year roadmap for modernizing India's cooperative sector and strengthening its role in rural empowerment. Amidst this significant development, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) underwent a leadership transition.

Ashok Chaudhary, previously the Chairman of Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Dudhsagar Dairy), was elected unopposed as the new Chairman of GCMMF. The elections took place in Anand in the presence of the chairpersons of all 18 member unions.

With this appointment, Chaudhary assumes responsibility for the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, which handles over 12 billion litres of milk annually and procures around 35 million litres of milk daily. GCMMF represents approximately 3.6 million dairy farmers in Gujarat, and with a group turnover exceeding USD 11 billion (approximately Rs 90,000 crore), it plays a significant role in India's dairy and food sector.

Chaudhary's role is expected to uphold GCMMF's mission of empowering rural dairy farmers across the state, providing fair and remunerative returns to farmers while ensuring value-for-money dairy products for consumers. His leadership is seen as timely and strategic, focusing on expanding the federation's reach, strengthening the cooperative’s infrastructure, ensuring sustainable income growth for dairy farmers, and adapting to evolving market and consumer demands.

Under Chaudhary's leadership, the iconic Amul brand, a subsidiary of GCMMF, will continue to thrive. Amul is one of India's most trusted household names and a symbol of rural empowerment. The federation's expansion into new product categories and international markets will further cement its position in India’s dairy sector while contributing to rural development.

The leadership transition occurs as the current two-and-a-half-year term of the previous office-bearers ends this month. The new National Cooperative Policy 2025, with its focus on modernizing India's cooperative sector and strengthening its role in rural empowerment, offers a promising future for GCMMF and its associated dairy farmers.

In his new position, Ashok Chaudhary, the freshly elected Chairman of GCMMF, will oversee the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, which operates in a business sector handling over 12 billion liters of milk annually and procuring around 35 million liters of milk daily. As a prominent player in India's dairy and food sector, GCMMF's finance-driven operations exceed USD 11 billion and represent around 3.6 million dairy farmers.
