Aptiv Expands India Footprint with $45M Chennai Centre for AI-Driven Safety Tech
Aptiv, a global technology company, has expanded its manufacturing footprint in India with a $45m investment in Orgadam, Chennai. The new centre, spanning almost 3,158sqm, is set to employ 500 engineers by 2026, further boosting Aptiv's local workforce which currently stands at around 13,000 across various facilities.
Led by Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Software, Advanced Safety, and User Experience, the new centre will focus on advancing AI-driven safety and software systems. It will integrate hardware, software, and edge technologies from Wind River, enhancing Aptiv's cloud-native architecture.
The facility will house an advanced safety & user experience (AS/UX) technical centre, dedicated to developing advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) perception tools, in-cabin sensing technologies, and software-defined infotainment platforms. It will also localise AI/ML-powered ADAS and advanced interior sensing technologies tailored to the Indian market. The centre incorporates advanced laboratories and testing infrastructure for AI, machine learning, and safety-critical systems.
With this expansion, Aptiv strengthens its engineering capabilities to address local OEM demands and brings the company closer to its customers, as stated by Javed Khan. The new centre in Chennai bolsters Aptiv's commitment to driving innovation in the region's automotive and technology sectors.
