New and Improved:

Migori County Governor Ochilo Ayacko scored a significant win as Members of the County Assembly endorsed a whopping Sh10.8 billion budget for the 2025/2026 financial year. This marked a major step in Ayacko's quest to implement community development projects.

The new budget, which faces immense pressure to deliver, is expected to fund projects such as road maintenance, water and health facility improvements, market structures, and ample shades for boda-boda riders. These initiatives aim to boost the administration's performance and enhance services for residents.

Addressing the press on June 24, Assembly Speaker Christopher Rusana affirmed that after scrutinizing the budget, they discovered it was a people-centric one. He emphasized that the development percentage and community projects in the budget had significantly increased.

Rusana expressed optimism that in the 2025/2026 financial year, residents would enjoy better services and programs. Ken Ouma, the majority leader and South Sakwa MCA, stated that each MCA bears the responsibility of ensuring proposed community projects are actualized. He mentioned that about 94 percent of the 2024/2025's FY community projects had been accomplished.

Key areas of investment in the budget include allocating Sh700 million for ward initiatives, with a major focus on road maintenance (at 52.2%), water and energy (20.4%), and healthcare (8.5%). The budget allocates Sh227.46 million for the payment of pending bills. In total, 61.5 percent of the budget will be utilized for recurrent expenditure, while 38.5 percent will be spent on development projects.

The administration intends to source Sh8.39 billion from equitable share, Sh1.67 billion in conditional grants, and Sh760 million from own source revenue. The health sector accommodates the largest share at Sh2.72 billion, followed by roads with an allocation of Sh1.23 billion[1][2].
