Apple Settles Siri Privacy Class Action for $95M
Apple has agreed to a $95m settlement in a Class Action lawsuit alleging Siri privacy violations. The preliminary settlement was filed in the Oakland, California federal court on December 31. The case involves claims that Siri unintentionally recorded and shared private communications with third parties between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
Eligible devices for the settlement include Siri-enabled iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks, iMacs, HomePods, iPod touches, and Apple TVs. Settlement Class Members can receive a pro rata payment of up to $20 per Siri device claimed. Apple denies all allegations and maintains it did nothing improper or unlawful.
Plaintiffs' Counsel is seeking attorneys' fees of up to 30% of the Settlement Fund and litigation expenses of up to $1.1m.
The settlement, if approved, will provide compensation to those affected by the alleged Siri privacy issues. Apple has agreed to the settlement without admitting wrongdoing.
